How to Choose Your Bike Stem
Choosing the right bike stem comes down to your riding style. Shorter stems (around 40–60mm) offer quicker handling and a more upright riding position, ideal for mountain bikers and technical terrain. Longer stems (90–130mm) provide more stability and a stretched-out fit, preferred for road and gravel riding. You’ll also want to match your handlebar clamp diameter, typically 31.8mm or 35mm, and make sure your stem fits your steerer tube, which is usually 1 1/8″. Finally, consider the angle of the stem to adjust your bar height: positive angles raise your cockpit, while negative angles lower it for a more aggressive setup.
