Elite X4

ELITE X4 : 31.8 Mountain
- CROSS COUNTRY
- CYCLOCROSS
- ALL MOUNTAIN
- DOWNHILL
The Thomson Elite X4 Stem grew out of the legacy of the Thomson Elite line. A great all around modern stem to fit 31.8mm diameter handlebars. This stem is ready to ride where you are.
DESCRIPTION
The design team for the new Thomson X4 had a tough goal: make a stem better than the Thomson Elite 25.4. Early tests showed us that our competitors’ 31.8 stems were heavier and weaker than our Thomson Elite 25.4. At Thomson the X4 was not done until it was stronger, lighter and longer lived than the legendary Thomson Elite.
The Thomson X4 stem allows you to realize the benefits of stiffer forks and stiffer 31.8 bars. X4 offers precise steering, tracking, and more control while riding, all wrapped up in a beautiful design.
Certified to: EN 14766 2006 MTB and DIN CERTCO: 2006 MTB
The Thomson X4 is stronger and 30 grams lighter than the Thomson Elite 25.4 mountain stem. It features a traditional steerer clamp that is shaped to save weight and to be knee friendly. X4 is absolutely the best combination of strength and weight available. Thomson stems are the strongest in the industry, meaning freeride and downhill riders can run Thomson confidently.
Solid one piece 7000 series aluminum extruded billet precision machined by Thomson in our Macon, Georgia factory.
Built and tested to the same standards as our aerospace parts.
The best stem for all-around Mountain Bike and Cyclocross riding.

FAQ
Q – Can I flip a Thomson Stem?
A – You may flip any Thomson stem to create different rise options. Starting in June of 2011 we changed the logo on the 10 degree X4 stems to be flippable so you may run negative and the logo will not be upside down.
Q – Can X4 be used on a Roadbike?
A – Yes, X2 is lighter and allows better aero bar compatibility, but if you want to use X4 on a 31.8 Road Handlebar you may.
Q – Is X4 safe for carbon fiber?
A – X4 is engineered to work very well with both carbon handlebars and carbon steerer tubes. All torque requirements in our instructions must be strictly followed for carbon components.
Q – Does a Thomson 1.5″ stem fit Cannodale Forks?
A – No. Cannondale Lefty and Headshock forks have steerer tubes that measure 1 9/16″ (1.5625″).
Q – Will Thomson make a Cannondale compatible stem?
A – Yes. We plan to release stems that fit the Headshock and Lefty in mid 2012.
Q – Why did you change steerer clamps on X4? Were there problems with the old clamp?
A – We changed to save weight. There were no problems with the old clamp but it did add about 20 grams.
Q – What is the stack height of the X4 Stem?
A – 40mm, 2mm less than the Thomson Elite Stem.
