Seatpost Masterpiece

MASTERPIECE : THE PREMIUM

  • ROAD
  • CYCLOCROSS

We wanted to create the best seatpost possible without regard to cost. The serious cyclist will want to own the Thomson Masterpiece Seatpost. Built in both straight and 16mm setback models the Masterpiece provides options for proper bike fit.

DESCRIPTION

Masterpiece posts weigh approximately 40 grams less than the same size Elite post. This weight reduction is accomplished while maintaining the strength and durability expected of a Thomson Seatpost.

Thomson accomplishes this weight reduction by machining the seatpost all over; including the oval inner diameter. We are able to hold closer tolerances by machining than by extrusion alone. Machining all over an already beautiful design makes the Masterpiece Seatpost a work of art.

Certified to: EN 14766 2006 MTB.

The tube and head of the Thomson Masterpiece seatpost is integral-machined from one single piece of high strength 7000 series aluminum. The head is not pressed or bonded in. This allows for superior strength and minimum weight, allowing higher strength at low weights.

Natural ellipse bore inside tube for optimum strength to weight ratio.

We have a long 1.614 inch (41 mm) seat rail grip length. This helps prevent seat rail bending from impact loads. Most other seatposts have grip lengths of .500 inch or more shorter than our grip length.

The Thomson Masterpiece seatpost design incorporates a bending fuse to prevent catastrophic failure. All competitive seatposts we tested failed catastrophically with the seat and clamp components, and sometimes pieces of the tube and head flying off in all directions.

The Thomson Masterpiece seatpost has a clamp, head, and upper tube strong enough to withstand 325 foot-lbs of torque. The tube will start to yield and bend at the seat tube clamp at about 230 foot-lbs of torque. Under severe impact the Thomson Masterpiece seatpost will bend slightly but allow the rider to come to a stop or continue the ride.

Every component of the Masterpiece seatpost is 100 percent American made. This includes all fasteners and forgings.

The Masterpiece seatpost has all parts captive and can easily be attached to a seat without disassembly.

Infinite tilt adjustment minus 5° and plus 29°.

Very low profile clamps means no seat interference as the swivel nuts are down between the seat rails.

The designs and materials have passed extensive life and ultimate strength tests.

Every production lot of seatposts has ultimate strength and fatigue tests performed. Our on going testing program ensures that every production lot of seatposts meets Thomson standards.

Impact absorbing clamps – clamps, head, and assembly will spread and flex on impact to protect seat, rails, seatpost and rider.

Adjustments can be made to the tilt of the seat without moving the seat forwards or backwards.

FAQ

Q – What colors are Masterpiece seatposts available in?
A – Black or Silver
Q – Are you going to add other colors in the near future?
A – No, we are not planning to add new colors.
Q – Do you plan to make a 410mm long Masterpiece seatpost?
A – No. 410mm long posts are already optimized for weight. The longer post must be stronger to deal with the increased possible leverage. In other words if we made the 410mm posts lighter they would not pass our strength tests.
Q – What size saddle rails work with Masterpiece seatposts?
A – Saddle rails from 7 x 7mm up to 7 x 10mm work well with Thomson Masterpiece clamps.
Q – Will carbon saddle rails work with a Masterpiece seatpost?
A – Yes, our clamps are very gentle to carbon saddle rails.
Q – Can I flip my set back post around to be a “set forward” to use my road bike for triathlon?
A – Yes you may. You may need to turn the top clamp to face the front of the bike for saddle adjustment.
Q – How much lighter is the Masterpiece than the Thomson Elite?
A – 40 grams on average.
Q – Should I grease my seatpost before installation?
A – A very light coat of grease is okay. Do not use anti-seize as it can cause slipping. To prevent sticking the post in the frame, remove clean and re-install every 90 days.Do not use grease in a carbon fiber frame.
Q – Is the Masterpiece strong enough to use on a Mountain Bike?
A – Masterpiece posts may be used for cross country mountain biking by riders who weigh 200 pounds or less.
Q – How many Masterpiece sizes do you plan to produce?
A – We offer 27.2 x 240 and 330, 30.9 x 350 and 31.6 x 350 Masterpiece posts. We have no plans for other sizes.
Q – Why would I buy a Masterpiece?
A – The Masterpiece is for the cyclist who wants the lightest weight seatpost but still wants the safety, strength and adjustability of a Thomson.
Q – Is there a weight limit on the Masterpiece seatpost?
A – Yes, 200 pounds or 91 kilos.
Q – How much setback does the setback post provide and why would I buy a setback?
A – All our setback posts provide 16mm of setback. The setback exists to provide options for bike fit.
