Covert Dropper in 30.9 and 31.6 will start shipping May 1st. Covert droppers cannot be converted to external cable models, and existing external cable droppers cannot be converted to covert. All specifications are the same, 5 inches/125mm of infinite travel, 515 g for weight.
27.2 dropper will follow about 4 weeks later. We plan to start shipping 27.2 droppers in the third week of May. 27.2 droppers will be external cable models only, covert will not be an option. 5 inches/125mm of travel, 430mm in overall length. That’s 30mm longer than the 30.9/31.6 droppers and is volume to accommodate more nitrogen. 27.2 is small enough that packaging everything you need inside the smaller tubes is an issue.
We did learn a few things with the external cable dropper. Yes, the cable and housing will be long enough. Besides the Loctite procedures we initiated on the existing dropper we will also be adding a set screw to help keep the upper bushing holder tight.
The lever will be a bit different in that the cable mounting is reversed. The existing dropper lever holds the cable end and the post lever has a set screw to fix the free end of the cable. Covert is reversed. The cable end is installed at the bottom of the post and there is a set screw in the lever to fix the cable. The lever also has a relief to hold the cut end of the cable. It would be very awkward to crimp a cable end on, so the lever traps the cut cable and keeps it away from your thumb.
27.2 will ship with the existing lever used on the external cable dropper. The under the saddle lever will work on 27.2.
As far as the lever goes we are not changing the shape. It works very well for most bikes. We are looking at an optional lever for 1X bikes that will be less obtrusive. We are also still working on wireless actuation.
$479.95 MSRP for Covert and 27.2. External cable models will remain $449.95.
